Looking for a fairly easy and quick hike in the Hot Springs, NC area?
We checked out theLover’s Leap loop this weekend and it did not disappoint.
This hike is perfect for folks who are looking for a view and a challenge, but want to be finished in under an hour. The drive from Asheville was quick and easy, no four wheel drive required to get to the trailhead!
There is ample parking at the bottom of the loop. At the beginning of the hike, you have a beautiful view of the French Broad River to your right. The way up the mountain is steep at points, but the switchbacks provide some relief and the views all the way up will keep you distracted. At the top, you might meet some Appalachian Trail through hikers as this trail coincides with the AT. We were fortunate enough to chat with a couple of folks who were just about a month into their journey to Maine.
The view at the apex was stunning, even with the foggy conditions we experienced.
The loop is around 1.6 miles and it took us about 40 minutes to complete with a little break at the top. If you want to make it longer, you can do an out and back along the AT which continues on past the Lover’s Leap peak. Afterwards, you’re just a quick drive away from downtown Hot Springs where you can find coffee or a breakfast sandwich for the drive home.
